Simplified Backgammon Rules

Basically here's how backgammon is played. Start from the basics, master it, and be all set for the advanced backgammon techniques.

Each of the players has 15 checker chips to handle or manage. Each player acts as a manager or commander in chief of his "soldiers" or "men." The backgammon game board has triangular spaces or points on which to place the 15 checker chips. At the center of the whole backgammon board is a bar. It separates the backgammon board into left and right. Before the first player does anything, he needs to toss the die to come up with the number of spaces or points he can move his checker chips.

Backgammon players need to maneuver their chips across the board to get to the other side first, which is a player's "home board." After getting all the backgammon chips to the other side, a player must be able to bear them off before the enemy does. With this done, the player wins the backgammon game. Checker chips' colors indicate the direction they go. A backgammon player with the white checker chips will have to "lead his men" in a counter clockwise direction. So, if the point of origin is at the bottom left part of the backgammon board (white chips often start there), the maneuvers must be counter clockwise across the board ending up at the top left portion of the backgammon board.

For black checker chips, the exact opposite is true. The point of origin is the top left corner of the backgammon board moving clockwise to the bottom left corner of the same. Players may move or maneuver the checker chips on any vacant space or point in the backgammon board. Checker chips can also be moved in spaces that are already homes to other ally checker chips, or even to enemy chips. Moving through a space or point that is home to an opponent checker can actually be hitting an enemy home.

Hitting an enemy home is good. Checker chips hit is made to take a rest for a while in the center bar. While taking rest, it is taken out of the way. If there are more enemy checker chips hit, the more enemy chips are taken out of the way and the faster one's checker chips are transported cross to the home board.

These are simplified rules of the backgammon game. The thing is to get one's checker chips to one's home board as soon as possible, and one way is to hit enemy chips.
